Oct. 6, 2010 --  The Alpha Kappa Lambda Education Foundation is pleased to announce the purchase of a new National Headquarters to be leased to the Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda. By purchasing a new building, AKL will occupy a larger and more functional facility that will provide a permanent home for the Fraternity in time for its centennial in 2014.

“This is a high AKL moment in our history ending 38 years without a true national home of our own,” said William (Bill) Porter, president of the AKL Education Foundation.

“A wonderful new partnership between this Foundation and the National Executive Council has paid a great dividend in allowing successful pursuit over the past 18 months of this important project,” he added.

AKL National President Kevin Camden said, “From this new building, we can continue our efforts to grow Alpha Kappa Lambda and develop the next generation of AKLs that will enrich our Brotherhood.”

Beginning Jan. 1, 2011, the new address for Alpha Kappa Lambda will be 354 Gradle Dr., Carmel, Ind., 46032. The city of Carmel, a northern suburb of Indianapolis, is consistently cited as one of the fastest growing communities in America and ranks #14 in Money magazine’s “100 Best Places to Live in America.”

  • Frequently Asked Questions

We are pleased to present these frequently asked questions about the new National Headquarters building. If you have any questions not addressed below, please call us 317-585-4911 or e-mail Alpha Kappa Lambda.

Why is the National Headquarters moving?

Alpha Kappa Lambda has been leasing office space since 1972. By moving into a new National Headquarters building purchased by the AKL Education Foundation, the Fraternity and Foundation will operate under one roof with room to grow. By relocating to a new building in this favorable real estate climate, we will have an updated, functional facility that will help the Fraternity to continue to grow and thrive. We will also have proper storage and display of our archived materials. The historical artifacts are tangible items of the Foundation and early beginnings of our organization. They also record and symbolize the growth and development over the years.

How large is the National Headquarters building?

The new building is 2,160 square-feet. We hope to add more square-footage to the building over the next few years.

    Where is National Headquarters moving?

Who purchased the National Headquarters building?

The Alpha Kappa Lambda Education Foundation, the tax-exempt charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Lambda, purchased the building. The building will be leased to the Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda. This is a standard arrangement among the 100+ fraternity and sorority headquarters because it is financially beneficial to both the Fraternity and the Foundation.

    When is National Headquarters moving?

The move will begin in late Fall 2010 and continue through early Spring 2011. The new mailing address will be effective Jan. 1, 2011.

National Headquarters staff will work carefully to ensure the archived materials are transported appropriately. Each item will be documented and moved carefully to the new facility.

How many times has National Headquarters moved over the years?

Alpha Kappa Lambda National Headquarters has operated in five locations; Emporia, Kansas (early 1950s-1964); Fort Collins, Colorado (1964-1972); Indianapolis, Indiana (Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity Headquarters: 1979-1984; Levey Mansion: 1984-2000; and Sycamore Springs: 2001-present).
